The St Osyth Priory & Parish Trust (SOPPT) was established in 2016 to support the restoration of key historic buildings, at St Osyth Priory, such as the Abbotts Tower, the Tithe Barn, Dairy and Cart Lodge.
George Clarke, presenter of TV’s Restoration Man and Amazing Spaces is the Patron whilst the independent board of Trustees currently includes:
- A lawyer from a top city law firm
- A former Lecturer at the University of Essex with a keen interest in planning and heritage matters
- Tim Sargeant
- A representative of City & Country
- A partner at one of the Country’s leading Chartered Surveyors
We are keen for board members to represent a broad range of skills and experience. To that end, the Trust has invited Tendring District Council, the local business community and St Osyth Parish Council to put forward representatives to join the board. We are still looking for members of the local community to put their names forward to become a Trustee too, please do get in contact if you think this might be you.
The plan is for the Trust to submit an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to restore a number of buildings on site. The main aim is to bring these buildings back into sustainable use, provide access, create jobs and economic opportunities for local people.
We had a very good preliminary meeting with the HLF in Spring 2017 and are in the process of working up a scheme to submit to their Heritage Enterprise Grant Programme, which, we are told, is ideally suited to the situation at St Osyth Priory.
